Opening of a new digital arts center in Cairo, Illinois.

CAIRO, Ill. (KFVS) – A new digital arts center is now available for customers in Cairo.

The new Digital Education, Media Arts and Copy Center is free to customers in the tri-state area. It is housed at the Harold S. Jones Fine Art Center in Cairo, along Commercial Street.

Harold Jones set it up. He said it was necessary for children and adults to be able to access the Internet.

“He’s a great skill builder that they can use, not just in the classroom but in their lives,” Jones said. “So just having this resource here is something to help spruce up their educational and personal lives.”

Jones said they needed another place where people could go so they could access basic necessities such as the internet.

“There was no place people could go to make copies or go online without queuing,” Jones said. “We have the library here, so it’s always been a great public resource for us, but it’s a bit limited in hours, so people were looking for an alternative.”

Jones said he wanted to make sure people of all ages in southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and western Kentucky have access to this free service.

“We want to make sure that basically all needs are covered for today’s business and educational pursuits,” Jones said.

Close at hand are computers, a fax machine, a copier, a big screen TV and more. The six computers were donated by the Cairo school district.
