The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, is looking to recruit a 0.5 (Teaching Focus) Lecturer in Creative Digital Arts to teach our undergraduate elective course in Digital Art Creation and Installation at second and second level. third year based at its Egham campus. Appointment will be at Lecturer Grade 8, with a starting point varying according to experience and qualifications.

The position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to teach in our undergraduate program, play a key role in its development by shaping content and structure, and work closely with the student cohort. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate an ability to teach experimental creative digital arts with a diverse range of media such as (but not limited to) video, audio, animation, mixed media, interactive and art-based on the Web. Technical ability to provide digital arts development software training is essential. Additionally, the ability to teach digital arts in game engines or with game design software such as UnReal Engine or Unity, and/or the ability to teach immersive digital arts, or interactive art with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or equivalent is also desirable but not essential. The candidate must demonstrate a theoretical and creative awareness of contemporary digital art as well as a technical ability to deliver artistic practice modules.

We are particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrable commitment and/or experience in inclusive education and pedagogy in the arts and/or creative industries, and whose creative practice engages with diverse cultural backgrounds and communities that have been historically underrepresented in digital arts.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues from the Department of Media Arts and the School of Performing and Computation Arts in an exciting time of development for the College.

The successful candidate will have teaching experience in digital media, creative art practice and/or immersive digital arts at the undergraduate level. They must have obtained a doctorate in a relevant field or demonstrate significant practical artistic or industrial success corresponding to the highest level of academic study. Additionally, the applicant’s demonstration of an ability or willingness to teach a combination of theoretical and practical elements of digital arts.

The incumbent will report to the Head of the Media Arts Department and perform appropriate management and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to interact with students and colleagues.
