Apple’s handset news headset can play ‘high quality’ VR video games

Apple’s handset topical headset could also be a godsend for VR gaming. In his most recent bulletin, BloombergMark Gurman’s Mark Gurman claimed that Apple was aiming for a headset capable of handling “high-quality” VR video games with every fast chip and high-resolution broadcasts. While it’s unclear exactly which chips might be affected, an earlier leak spoke of a potential 8K per eye decision – Apple won’t expect games to work on that decision, but it could trace to critical processing energy.

The helmet isn’t ready to hit “as soon as” 2022, Gurman said. He also indicated that Apple would finally see the headset combined with an augmented reality-only model, but that was “years later.”

Even if the statement is correct, it is uncertain whether the handset headset is primarily intended for gaming. The price (which would be as high as $ 3,000) may confine it to builders and other professionals. So it wouldn’t be a rival to the Quest 2 at $ 299. Instead, the report suggests that Apple could use this first headset to pave the way for more budget portable devices where gaming makes more sense.

It’s safe to assume that Apple is dedicated to a headset, regardless of the end result. Apple has acquired companies and reportedly reshuffled executives with a combined reality in mind. It wouldn’t just be a side mission for the company, although the combined topical technology could take years to succeed in the mainstream. Gaming can play a central role if Apple is to succeed with a wider audience.
